Las Vegas: A City Built for Showtime

Las Vegas does shows differently. Instead of a theater district, it has showrooms and arenas inside the resorts along the Strip, with everything from acrobatic spectacles and magic to comedy, tribute acts and headline residencies. You can walk from one resort to the next and see a different kind of show every night.

Production shows

Large-scale spectacles in purpose-built theaters, including the Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas shows.

Residencies

Headline singers and bands performing a series of dates at one venue. Plan around confirmed dates only.

Magic and comedy

Long-running magic shows and comedy clubs, many in smaller, more intimate rooms.

Free spectacles

Outdoor attractions along the Strip that cost nothing to watch, such as the fountains in front of Bellagio.

Planning Around a Las Vegas Show

Stay at or near the resort where your main show plays. The Strip looks walkable on a map, but distances between resorts are longer than they appear, especially in summer heat. If your shows are spread out, choose a central location and use rideshares or the monorail.

Visit Las Vegas, the official tourism site, lists shows, events and what is on during your dates. Big conventions and events can fill hotels and raise rates, so check the calendar before you choose a weekend. Compare Strip and off-Strip hotels on Rooms Cheap.

Tickets and Timing

  • Buy from the venue or the show’s official site for residencies and big productions. Resale is common and risky for headline concerts.
  • Check the dark days. Many production shows run on set nights of the week.
  • Read age guidance. Some shows are adults-only; others are family-friendly.
  • Plan dinner around curtain time. Many resorts have restaurants steps from their showrooms.
  • Flights: Las Vegas is served by direct flights from many U.S. cities; compare on Airfares for Less.

Pacing a Las Vegas show trip

One big show a night is plenty for most visitors. Late nights, desert sun and long walks through casinos add up, so leave an afternoon for the pool or a trip out of town to the desert and canyons. If a residency concert is the reason for your trip, book flights and hotel only after you hold tickets for a confirmed date.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do Las Vegas residencies work?

A residency is a run of concerts by one headline performer at a single Las Vegas venue, scheduled in blocks of dates over months or years. Dates are announced in batches and change, so check the performer’s or venue’s official site for current dates before you plan a trip around one.

Which Cirque du Soleil shows are in Las Vegas?

When we checked in October 2026, Cirque du Soleil listed Mystere (at Treasure Island), O (at Bellagio), KA and Michael Jackson ONE on its Las Vegas page. Line-ups change, so confirm on Cirque’s official site.
